My mom’s pork sinigang is a popular dish in my household. Sinigang is a Filipino pork soup flavored with tamarind and filled with lots of vegetables. Try it out and make sure to eat it with a bowl of rice!

Rice is life, and I mean that with all my heart! This stationary set features rice based across Asian cuisines. The mini notepad includes a Korean bibimbap design, the sticky pads represent Hawaiian musubi and Korean gimbap, and the washi tapes have illustrations of both Japanese onigiri and nigiri sushi. All the items are neatly placed inside of a bento box packaging.

“Chueruity? Is it charcuterie? You know… it’s that fancy ass meat and cheese board!”

I can’t possibly be the only one that struggles too pronounce charcuterie, right?

Colectivo is a chain coffee shop throughout Wisconsin. Each year, Colectivo tasks MIAD seniors with designing coffee cups to be used in their cafes. My first concept showcases a fun, quirky flock of caffeinated flamingos. This design was chosen as one of the five cup illustrations that will be featured for a limited period of time! The second design features a graphic design that is inspired by Colectivo’s tasty bakery items.

The enneagram identifies nine personality types that describe how people interpret the world and manage their emotions.

I am an enneagram type 2, which is represented in the pink illustration. Type 2s are labeled as “The Helper” and are known for being empathetic, warm-hearted, and caring.

A wing of my enneagram is type 3, which is represented in the purple illustration. Type 3s are called “The Achiever” and strive to attain their ambitions as well as encourage others to chase their goals as well.

My final wing is enneagram type 1, which is represented in the orange illustration. Type 1s are known as “The Perfectionist” and commit themselves to achieving a level of high standards, organization, and practicality.

Fruit Sando is a hand drawn alphabet inspired by the light and sweet Japanese treat that shares the same name. Juicy seasonal fresh fruits are placed in whipped cream between two slices of pillowy Japanese milk bread. These colorful sandwiches are filled with strawberries, oranges, blueberries, and kiwis.

Julia Child made a valid point when she said, “a party without cake is just a meeting.”

“It is so beautifully arranged on the plate, you know someone’s fingers have been all over it,” once said by Julia Child. You don’t usually think about the people touching the food when you see stunning food styling.

Inspired by my expanded knowledge and interest on various world religions, I wanted to explore the connection between religious worship and food. Religion is full of rich traditions that are often pulled from the cultures from which they originated. Through these two plate deigns, I wanted to explore the ritual dimension of the role food plays in both Hinduism and Buddhism. Both of these religions practice offering food to varying entities. The colorful plate is a representation of the practice of offering food in Hinduism, and the blue toned plate represents Buddhism.

A pinch of this and a pinch of that! Add a little spice to your life from spicy cayenne to comforting vanilla.

This alphabet was inspired by the unique qualities of edible mushrooms. Maybe you can spot a few familiar species such as chanterelle and enoki!

“In a Week” is a gloomily romantic song by Hozier. This song transported me into the woods as I let the music’s imagery surround me.

The lyrics read, “I have never know peace like the damp grass that yields to me. I have never known hunger like the insects that feast on me.”

This is my redesign of the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. The cover features the main character, Jaine Crawfrod, whose quest is to find her identity and freedom. The cover nods to the book’s symbolism such as the significance of bees and pear blossoms, along with the use of her hair wrap. The interior illustration is a representation of Jaine’s love interest, Tea Cake.

What started as a three piece series that aimed to explore the vast diversity in African cuisine expanded to also feature recipes from Indian, Mexican, Japanese, and Hawaiian culture. The last four pages are based on interviews I conducted surrounding the conversation of what the food of their heritage means to them.

In support of local efforts to fight food insecurity, I have created a 3 piece series to bring attention to the MKE Community Fridge. This great organization has made it their goal to help make food accessible to those in this community.

This is a 3 part series that shows us some simple ways to be more sustainable and eco friendly in our actions surrounding food.

One method is to eat local. Support small business owners and local farmers by purchasing your produce from farmers markets. It’s fun, good for the environment, and you know your fruits and vegetables will be fresh! Another great way to be proactive is growing your own food. Start an outdoor garden if you have the space, or start something small on your windowsill. Lastly, compost your kitchen waste instead of contributing to landfills!

In collaboration with Carmex, I created an illustration that showcases one of the main qualities of Carmex products, comfort. I wanted to show the lip balm among other items I associate with comfort such as cozy socks, scented candles, and listening to your favorite song. What brings comfort to your life?
